The students of South Glens Falls High School will host the 33rd Annual South High Marathon Dance in the South Glens Falls High School Gym on March 5-6 , 2010. Last years dance the students, and the community that supports them, raised $260,020 bringing our grand total, over 32 years, to more than $2.08 million! Download the SHMD 2010 Press Release Here.

The 2010 SHMD Marathon Dance is dedicated to the loving memory of Dick "Papa" Stewart. Papa Stewart was an influential volunteer, mentor, friend, and leader to the SHMD community since the dance's inception.

Shirts will be available for pickup at the Marathon Dance on Saturday, March 6th from 9am to 11am.


Come join the rest of the SHMD Family on 2-27-10 for Adirondack Phantoms SHMD night. Percentage of the proceeds to benefit SHMD.

Interesting facts about the dance:

  • The dance has donated money to over 120 causes and individuals in the last 32 years
  • In 2009 the students divided $260,020 among 22 worthy causes and people in need.
  • In 2010 the SHMD Travel Team will be returning to Richmond, VA for the 4th Annual Deep Run Marathon Dance at the end of March
  • Only twice in the dance's history has the previous year's total not been broken ('81 & '84)
  • A committee of students plans the dance
  • The first dance involved about 50 dancers. In 2009, a record-setting 720 students signed up to participate.
  • More than half of the school's population participates in the dance
