The students of South Glens Falls High School will host the 33rd Annual South High Marathon Dance in the South Glens Falls High School Gym on March 5-6 , 2010. Last years dance the students, and the community that supports them, raised $260,020 bringing our grand total, over 32 years, to more than $2.14 million!

The 2010 SHMD Marathon Dance is dedicated to the loving memory of Dick "Papa" Stewart. Papa Stewart was an influential volunteer, mentor, friend, and leader to the SHMD community since the dance's inception.

Thank you Papa Stewart....

Interesting facts about the dance:

• The dance has donated money to over 120 causes and individuals in the last 32 years

• In 2010 the students who plan the dance have selected 24 worthy causes to donate their funds to.

• In 2010 the SHMD Travel Team will be returning to Richmond, VA for the 4th Annual Deep Run Marathon Dance at the end of March

• Only twice in the dance's history has the previous year's total not been broken ('81 & '84)

• A committee of students plans the dance

• The first dance involved about 50 dancers. In 2010, more than 700 students have signed up to participate.

• More than three quarters of the school's population participates in the dance
